Tech mogul Elon Musk made a striking appearance at a rally alongside Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, issuing a stark warning about the future of American democracy. Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, described the upcoming presidential election as pivotal, declaring Trump the only candidate capable of “preserving democracy in America.”
Musk, who also owns the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), joined Trump for the first time at one of the former president’s campaign rallies, solidifying their growing alliance in the final months of the 2024 election cycle. Musk wore a black “Make America Great Again” cap and warned the crowd that “this will be the last election” if Trump fails to win, signaling the severity with which he views the stakes of the race.
The event took place on the same property where Trump survived an assassination attempt in July. A gunman’s bullets grazed Trump’s ear and tragically claimed the life of his supporter, Corey Comperatore, while injuring several others.
During his speech, Musk emphasized his support for Trump, positioning him as a defender of fundamental American rights. He accused Democrats of seeking to restrict freedoms, including free speech, gun ownership, and voting rights. Musk also criticized efforts in California to ban voter ID requirements, painting them as an attack on democratic processes.
Musk’s appearance at the rally was not his first collaboration with Trump. In August, the two held a rare public conversation on X, during which they discussed the July assassination attempt, illegal immigration, and Trump’s proposals to cut government regulations. The discussion was overwhelmingly positive, further cementing their partnership.
As the election approaches, Musk has become a significant player in Trump’s campaign. He created a super PAC supporting the Republican nominee, heavily investing in get-out-the-vote efforts across the country. Trump has also suggested that, if re-elected, he would appoint Musk to lead a government efficiency commission, demonstrating his confidence in the billionaire’s abilities to streamline the U.S. bureaucracy.
Saturday’s rally drew a massive crowd, underscoring Trump’s continued appeal among his base. The event highlighted the close relationship between two of the most prominent figures in U.S. politics and technology, and their shared determination to influence the direction of the country in the 2024 election.
