Roca Group to Invest €70 Million in Kazakhstan to Establish Central Asian Production Hub
Spanish bathroom solutions manufacturer Roca Group has announced a €70 million investment to build a major industrial complex in Kazakhstan, marking a strategic expansion into Central Asia. The facility, to be located in Kyzylorda, will house several production units and create around 300 jobs, according to the company’s CEO, Albert Magrans.
In an exclusive interview with Euronews, Magrans said the project aims to serve the fast-growing Central Asian market with a complete range of bathroom products, including furniture, acrylic bathtubs, and shower trays. The industrial park will also feature an installation systems unit, reflecting Roca’s plan to deliver full bathroom solutions from a single site.
“The decision is about growth and presence,” Magrans explained. “Kazakhstan has huge potential, not only as a domestic market but also as a regional hub for neighbouring Central Asian countries. Until now, we’ve been present here only through exports. With this facility, we aim to establish a direct presence.”
The move comes amid broader efforts by the Kazakh government to attract foreign investment and diversify its industrial base. Access to essential raw materials played a key role in Roca’s decision, with Kyzylorda offering proximity to critical components like clay and feldspar, essential for ceramic production.
“Our engineers tested the raw materials on-site and sent samples to our central labs,” said Magrans. “The region was highly recommended by local authorities for its infrastructure, talent pool, and connectivity to major cities.”
Sustainability is another key pillar of the project. Roca, which received EcoVadis Platinum status earlier this year — an accolade held by only 1% of 150,000 audited companies — plans to incorporate cutting-edge environmental standards at the new site. The facility will be designed to recycle all input materials and operate as a net-zero emissions plant. Solar panels will cover the entire roof to support energy needs.
“This will be our most advanced factory in terms of sustainability,” Magrans noted. “It’s our responsibility to also ensure our supply chain contributes to a greener ecosystem.”
The expansion comes two years after Roca closed its operations in Russia. However, Magrans stressed that the Kazakhstan project is not a relocation but a separate initiative aimed at tapping into a largely untapped region.
Looking ahead, Roca hopes its presence will encourage other Spanish companies to explore opportunities in Kazakhstan. “We would be more than happy to act as a bridge,” Magrans said.
Roca has a longstanding presence in China, but Magrans indicated that the output from Kazakhstan will primarily serve Central Asia, with no immediate plans for Chinese exports.
