Trump Issues Dire Warning to Farmers at Pennsylvania Rally Amid Election Push
Former President Donald Trump delivered a stark warning to farmers in Pennsylvania, cautioning that if he loses the upcoming election, their livelihoods could be at risk. “You won’t have a farm very long,” Trump told the crowd on Monday, in an address where he positioned himself as the defender of rural America against external threats like China and rising energy costs.
The event, held in a key swing state, was part of Trump’s broader strategy to appeal to working-class voters, especially in rural areas, by framing the 2024 election as a battle for the survival of the U.S. economy. During his speech, Trump highlighted his commitment to protecting American farmers from foreign competition and market disruptions, specifically mentioning China’s role in the global agricultural sector.
Trump’s warning about potential bankruptcies in the agricultural industry under a Kamala Harris presidency echoed his usual grim forecasts, emphasizing that energy prices would spike and devastate rural communities. “If they get in, your energy costs are going to go through the roof,” Trump said, predicting that such increases would cripple farms and small businesses.
The former president’s remarks also touched on broader themes that have been central to his political rhetoric, evoking a vision of an America in crisis. Throughout his political career, Trump has frequently adopted a pessimistic tone, warning voters of looming economic collapse, crime, and foreign threats if he is not in power. At Monday’s rally, he reiterated his claim that “our country is being lost” and that only his leadership could save it from further decline.
Trump’s rhetoric extended beyond agriculture. He accused the Biden administration of failing to hold China accountable for trade agreements, including a $50 billion deal to buy U.S. agricultural products. He promised that if re-elected, one of his first actions would be to confront Chinese President Xi Jinping, both on trade and on the issue of fentanyl, a drug contributing to America’s overdose crisis.
Despite these bold promises, Trump’s economic record has faced scrutiny. During his presidency, he imposed tariffs on China that led to economic strain for some American industries, including agriculture. However, Trump has maintained his popularity among rural voters, in part due to subsidies provided during his trade war with Beijing.
At the rally, Trump also targeted the tractor manufacturer John Deere, threatening a 200% tariff if the company moved production to Mexico, as he accused the firm of undermining American farmers.
With the 2024 election nearing, Trump’s continued focus on populist economic themes and his ability to connect with voters through stark warnings of catastrophe have helped cement his status as the Republican frontrunner. Recent polls show that a majority of voters in key swing states believe Trump would handle the economy better than Harris, underscoring the effectiveness of his messaging.
